Rochdale Health Alliance Rochdale Health Alliance (RHA) was established in 2016, by GP practices from across the Rochdale Borough. We have 17 member practices across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale and have a dedicated team on hand to support practice needs. Our dedicated team has expertise that can provide support and expertise in finance, HR, communications, project management and strategy, and our aim is to ensure we share our knowledge to help our members improve their resources. RHA currently supports 4 Primary Care Networks with back-office support such as finance, recruitment, contracts, employment of ARRS staff, training and development as well as providing services such as the mass COVID vaccination programme for patients throughout 2021-2022. Our Network Support Managers and Officers work collaboratively with each of our PCNs to understand their individual needs and create a bespoke level of support for them all. Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Primary Care Academy is an integral part of RHA and develops the primary care workforce, in order to facilitate the recruitment and retention of well-trained and motivated staff. RHA currently provides the following services which provide additional access to general practice appointments: In Hours Same Day GP Appointments Service. GP Practices are under extreme pressure and appointments can be difficult to get due to this. To try and support patients who after a triage at their own practice, can be booked into one of these appointments so that they are seen on the same day if clinically required. Enhanced Access RHA is commissioned by 5 Primary Care Networks to provide GP and other healthcare routine appointments outside of Practices core Hours. These appointments are generally provided between 18:30 pm and 20:00 pm and Saturdays between 9 am and 17:00 pm Sunday and Bank Holiday Service RHA is commissioned to provide a service on Sundays and bank Holidays to provide GP and other healthcare appointments on these days between 08:00 and 16:00 on Sundays and Bank holidays. Many changes, both national and local, have happened over the past 6 years and throughout all those changes RHA has adapted to ensure that the organisation is able to continue to grow and deliver on our commitments . Stakeholders Rochdale Health Alliance's work plan is guided by priorities identified in discussions with key primary care stakeholders and considers current local work programmes and priorities in primary care organisations. We plan to: hold discussions with key stakeholders via attendance at various forums to look at national work programmes, priorities and recommendations to look at the potential for savings and improving efficiency to discuss opportunities for improving the quality of patient care and improving safety.

Hart is a Primary Care Health Service provided by Rochdale Health Alliance for the homeless and transients within our borough. The team consists of two Registered Nurses and a Liaison Officer. This service is for the homeless, vulnerable, and transient communities of Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton. Homeless Alliance Response Team HART is a Primary Care Health Service provided by Rochdale Health Alliance for homeless and transient patients within our borough. The service is led by a Registered Nurse. This service is for the homeless, vulnerable, and transient communities of Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton. Following a Procurement exercise by NHS Greater Manchester last year, we are thrilled to announce that Rochdale Health Alliance has been successfully awarded the contracts to manage Dr Ghafoor’s Practice in Rochdale, and the SMC Great Lever Practice in Bolton. We are excited to have these Practices as part of our healthcare family and look forward to providing the patients of the practices with exceptional care and service. Our team is dedicated to ensuring maintaining delivery of the high standards that the patients have come to expect. What can Patients expect? Patients will continue to receive care from the same dedicated healthcare professionals they trust. GP services will continue as usual, and patients do not need to take any action. As of 1st April 2025, following a NHS Greater Manchester Procurement exercise, Rochdale Health Alliance will be taking over the management and operations of Dr Ghafoor’s Practice. Who are we? Rochdale Health Alliance (RHA) was established in 2016. Our Board is made up of practicing GP Partners, who have between them over 100 years of experience working as GPs, and a Non-Executive Director who is also the Chair of RHA. The Directors, supported by an experienced team provide guidance and insight into the challenges and opportunities in General Practice and help us to shape services to ensure that they meet the needs of patients. RHA is excited to have you as part of our healthcare family and look forward to providing you with exceptional care and service. Our team is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining the high standards you have come to expect. What Can You Expect: You will continue to receive care from the same dedicated healthcare professionals you trust. Dr Ghafoor will still be the senior GP at the Practice and will continue to be supported by Saba the Practice Manager and the existing nursing, administration, and reception team. Primary Care Academy Team < Back Emily Williams Primary Care Academy Team LMS Developer I joined the Primary Care Academy in February 2025 as an E-Learning Systems Developer. With over 20 years of experience in Learning and Development across both the voluntary and private sectors, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals and organisations to meet their training goals. My background includes designing and delivering face-to-face learning, and over the past five years, I’ve focused increasingly on online training, developing digital learning solutions and overseeing their completion and compliance. I was seeking a new challenge when I came across this opportunity, and from the very first conversation, I felt an immediate connection with the team. The role excited me, and I’m truly grateful to now be part of such a talented and inspiring group of colleagues. I live in North Wales with my husband and son, where we love spending weekends outdoors, either exploring the mountains or enjoying time on (or in) the water. We’re also kept happily busy with our three grandchildren, and a fourth on the way! Although I primarily work remotely, I enjoy my regular visits to Rochdale and connecting in person with the wider team.

Primary Care Academy Team < Back Dr Gill Tonge Primary Care Academy Team Director of the Academy I came to Rochdale in 1992 completing my VTS training at Castleton Health Centre and moving down the road to be a GP at Peterloo Medical Centre in 1996, where I have remained ever since. In 2002 Peterloo Medical centre gained back training status for which we have been training a wide array of trainees ever since. I represented Middleton on the LMC from 1997 -2004 through this I was involved in the teenager pregnancy task group, cervical cytology and maternity service committee. In 2004 I became RCGP NWE sexual health course director and have ran courses across North West related to men, women’s and sexual health. Through this role, I have developed a cervical screening training package for GPST which is currently being evaluated nationally with a view to national rollout. In 2007 I joined the Pennine GPST educator team and have been involved in training our next generation of GP’s on the patch since then. I have been involved with a lot of the practices in the area, if not with my GPST training hat on, with other hats I have worn related to being a QoF assessor (2004-2006) and a local appraiser (2009-2011). I have recently been appointed HMR Academy Director and Greater Manchester Training Hub NE sector clinical lead which is all about helping train, develop and enhance primary care for the whole of our workforce. Aside from being a GP, I am trying to become an accomplished sailor and partake in a variety of outdoor activities (usually in the rain in the Lake District!) with my husband, daughter and our chocolate Labrador.
