Placements What are placements? Back to list Placements form a valuable part of their learning experience. It enables students to gain real-life skills and knowledge that will support their course objectives and career development. Placements vary in length depending on individual course requirements. HMRPCA works in partnership with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the region and Greater Manchester Training Hub to support student placements across a range of courses. As well as looking at innovative ways to promote primary care as a career destination What are place-based tariffs/placement tariffs? Some student placements that are hosted by a GP Practice, or other community-based organisation, comes with a placement tariff. The hosting organisation is known as the placement provider. The tariff is a payment of money that is paid to the placement provider. It is set by NHSE to acknowledge the staff time taken to supervise and train the student. Currently, this can take over 12 months to be paid to placement providers. Become a learning environment? HMRPCA would like to encourage all GP Practices and social care homes in Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale to consider offering a student placement. We feel the local areas offer excellent examples of primary and community care provision. Offering a placement encourages students to remain in the county after graduation. 8 Back Greenbooth Reservoir There are spellbinding walks to be had at this string of four moorland water reservoirs to the north-west of Rochdale. The three upper reservoirs to the north were completed in 1846 in the steep valley above the village of Greenbooth. But as Rochdale grew in the post-war years another reservoir was needed, and so the village was wiped from the map. The lower reservoir was opened in 1965, and on the side of the dam is a plaque in memory of the village. There’s a choice of walking loops on this natural ledge overlooking Greater Manchester, letting you explore the landscape for anything from 30 minutes to several hours. In this rugged Pennine setting you’ll be in the company of flocks of sheep, and will have views to savour to the south, and across to Yorkshire in the east. Previous Next

GP Form General Practitioners (GPs) treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment. You’ll have an important role looking after patients in your community. Life as a GP You’ll be part of a wider team that promotes, prevents and offers treatment. You’ll care for people with chronic illness and long-term conditions, aiming to keep them well and in their own homes. A full-time working week usually comprises of eight sessions, which equates to four days. A typical day in the practice normally starts at around 8am when you’ll check paperwork before seeing patients. You’ll spend time with a mix of patients with a variety of health needs until late morning, either face-to-face or through a phone consultation. At the end of morning surgery, some GPs see extra patients who need to be seen urgently. After morning appointments, you'll generally catch up on paperwork, and make any phone calls. After lunch, you may visit patients in their homes or care homes. Once visits are complete, you’ll start your afternoon surgery, which might run from 3pm until 5.30pm. Runner Up < Back Dr Zahir Mohammed Leadership Award Runner Up "For the past 2 decades Dr Mohammed has relentlessly supported GPs and their practices across HMR borough. From the early days when General Practice was supported by FHSA to the subsequent move to Primary Care Groups, Primary Care Trusts and now ICBs he has represented the profession and ensured that General Practice had a voice and that appropriate funding and support from commissioning was forthcoming. He has undertaken various roles and currently supports the General Medical Council in managing complaints, continues in his role as an appraiser, supports the profession as vice chair of Rochdale and Bury Local Medical Committee, Medical Director of Rochdale Health Alliance and Clinical Director for Heywood PCN which has consistently for many years performed well in contract and service delivery across the borough. For the past 5 years he has represented the PCNs on the Local Care Organisation board and the Local Care Executive only recently having retired from those roles. His leadership at practice level is reflected in his significant increase in patient list size from 3000 when he joined 15years ago to the largest list size now in the borough at over 11500. Alongside these roles he continues to undertaking his support as a trainer for junior doctors. Over the past decade he has led, supported and guided the profession in an admirable way and has been a shinning beacon to the young GPs of of today on how to deliver and support leadership within the borough."
