They never react to even the harshest of interactions when patients are unwell frustrated and angry and remain ever professional. They aim to help out where they can and often are able to sort out problems at source which are more social or administrative despite the patients' insistence on speaking the doctors about them. They guide and comfort and also have amazing clinical acumen for non clinicians - able to point out a regular patient who may look unwell , even in the local supermarket! and get them booked in. They help those who are frail and elderly to navigate a difficult system of bookings referrals results etc and they always look after us clinicians - they protect us so we can look after the unwell and take a lot of the brunt of the frustration themselves as well as keeping me fed and watered.
