- Lisa Mitchell
Wellbeing Award < Back Lisa Mitchell Wellbeing Award Winner If i can nominate Lisa everyday, I would. Since taking over the role of our Practice Manager almost 3 years ago, she has completely turned it around. She has ensured our working environment is a nicer place to be i.e., part revamp in many areas both clinical and non clinical, employed more staff to take the pressure of in many areas, invested in staff to upskill when they have shown and interest and worked with the partners to increase pay to ensure that all staff members are fully appreciated. On top of all this, she has always been considerate and fair with all staff members, arranged wellbeing events for the staff and ensures that staff are fully supported in their working environment. Even after having a tough year herself personally, Lisa always manages to come in with a smile for everyone and still keeps a lovely approachable manner. If Carlsberg did Practice Managers..... - Amanda Clegg
Rochdale Health Alliance Senior Management Team < Back Amanda Clegg Rochdale Health Alliance Senior Management Team Head of Operations Amanda has worked in the primary care arena, specifically across primary care commissioning and contracting, and within Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR), for over thirty years. During her time at the PCT / PCT / NHSE and the CCG, she has managed all contracts and budgets on behalf of the employing organisation for primary care contractors within HMR. Key areas of responsibility included development and delivery of plans for key NHS policy initiatives and changes affecting primary care, which often require tact, diplomacy and negotiation skills to ensure delivery; commissioning services from independent contractors; performance management; implementation of and delivery of development/action plans, implementation of new local initiatives Within RHA, Amanda is responsible for the delivery of primary care developments and contracts, corporate organisation and governance, and the contracting and financial elements of the organisation. Due to the nature of the relationships between independent contracts and the NHS, it is an area that is innovative, gets things done quickly and no two days are ever the same, some days frustrating but ultimately always rewarding.

- East Lancashire Railway
15 Back East Lancashire Railway Heywood in Rochdale is a terminus for a 12-mile heritage railway extending north to Rawtenstall in Lancashire. The East Lancashire Railway was established in 1846 and was eventually absorbed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1859. This was closed to passenger services in 1972 and restoration has been ongoing since 1986. As of 2019, there were seven stops on the line, with a new halt opened at Burrs Country Park. It’s as if the South Pennine landscape, littered with Victorian townscapes and cotton mills, was made to be traversed by steam locomotive. For the younger generation, the line is a way to sample the sights, smells and sounds of a forgotten era. The timetable is busiest between April and September when there are services from Wednesday to Sunday. The line has a calendar of special events, like an Ale Trail, 1940s Weekend, Ghost Trains at Halloween and a regular “Wizard Academy” with a nod to Harry Potter. Previous Next
- Dr Gill Tonge
Primary Care Academy Team < Back Dr Gill Tonge Primary Care Academy Team Director of the Academy I came to Rochdale in 1992 completing my VTS training at Castleton Health Centre and moving down the road to be a GP at Peterloo Medical Centre in 1996, where I have remained ever since. In 2002 Peterloo Medical centre gained back training status for which we have been training a wide array of trainees ever since. I represented Middleton on the LMC from 1997 -2004 through this I was involved in the teenager pregnancy task group, cervical cytology and maternity service committee. In 2004 I became RCGP NWE sexual health course director and have ran courses across North West related to men, women’s and sexual health. Through this role, I have developed a cervical screening training package for GPST which is currently being evaluated nationally with a view to national rollout. In 2007 I joined the Pennine GPST educator team and have been involved in training our next generation of GP’s on the patch since then. I have been involved with a lot of the practices in the area, if not with my GPST training hat on, with other hats I have worn related to being a QoF assessor (2004-2006) and a local appraiser (2009-2011). I have recently been appointed HMR Academy Director and Greater Manchester Training Hub NE sector clinical lead which is all about helping train, develop and enhance primary care for the whole of our workforce. Aside from being a GP, I am trying to become an accomplished sailor and partake in a variety of outdoor activities (usually in the rain in the Lake District!) with my husband, daughter and our chocolate Labrador.
