- St Leonard’s Church
14 Back St Leonard’s Church A few miles south of Rochdale proper, but still in the borough, Middleton’s parish church is also a Grade I monument and merits a closer look. Most of St Leonard’s is from the 1520s, with a few earlier remnants like the south arcade, south porch and tower from the 1410s, and the priest’s door dating back a century before that. The church was completed in a Perpendicular Gothic style by Sir Richard Assheton as thanks for the knighthood he received for his role in the Battle of Flodden in 1513. Make sure to see the Flodden Window in the sanctuary, thought to be the UK’s oldest war memorial. St Leonard’s also has a tremendous array of monumental brasses from the 1500s and 1600s, among which is the only brass depicting a Civil War officer in full armour. Previous Next

- RHA Access Team
Runner Up < Back RHA Access Team League of Superheroes Award Runner Up I would like to nominate Sue and her team who support delivery of the Access Service. No matter what trials and tribulations the team face (and there have been many) they step up to deliver enhanced access across 5 PCNs in the borough - 6 days a week / In Hours service 5 days a week and also the winter pressure hubs that ran November to March 2024. All this requires staffing / stock management / appointment book management / IT / communications / dealing with issues and much much more. On many occasions if admin staff have cancelled at such short notice and they are unable to find a replacement for the shift then they cancel their own plans (evenings and weekends) to ensure the service can still be delivered for the booked patients which means that staff members can be working a 12 hour day or 6 days a week. The team are diligent in dealing with referrals and manage significant numbers of referrals on behalf of the service, that would otherwise go back to the patients registered practice and they don't complain when having deal with more when the winter hubs are stood up to support winter pressures,. Over the past 12 months the team have dealt with circa 3949 referrals. The team has coped well when they have been down on staffing and they amazingly maintain a really positive 'can do' attitude in difficult times. Take a bow and well done.
